Welcome to Malala Lodge - Accommodation in Hluhluwe, Zululand

Malala is a bush lodge in a 140 hectare (340 acre) private nature reserve, accommodating a maximum of up to 18 guests, thereby ensuring a tranquil African bush atmosphere and experience.

Our Hluhluwe lodge accommodation is located in the centre of the Elephant Coast in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. We are ideally positioned between the world-renowned Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve, Mkhuze Game Reserve, Sodwana Bay and the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. The location map provides a good picture of where we are relative to these attractions.

Malala Lodge has been owned and managed by the Harvey family (Paul, Jane and Pete) since 2001 and we, together with an enthusiastic team of staff, are always on hand to provide the personal attention one would associate with a small intimate lodge.

Instead of providing you with a string of adjectives describing our lodge, the purpose of our website is to describe clearly what the Malala Lodge experience is (and isn’t), so that you can easily decide whether what we have to offer will meet your needs.

To this end, we have provided a summary of the comments from our guestbooks and various online reviews, highlighting the experiences of many of our past guests:

• Our personal service, for which we are often described as genuine, caring, enthusiastic and helpful.
• Game drives into Hluhluwe-Imfolozi, which are frequently a high point for most guests, and with Pete described as a very knowledgeable, interesting and humorous guide.
• Our home-style meals, regularly mentioned as delicious and plentiful. Whilst we (Jane and Paul) certainly don’t aspire to being masterchefs, we do enjoy preparing unpretentious yet tasty meals using only fresh ingredients.
• Positioning of our chalets and cottages – all positioned within the forest fringe, affording you privacy, and described by past guests as: charming, clean and comfortable.
• The camp and surrounding bush, commented on repeatedly for its quietness and tranquillity.
• The location of Malala, making it an ideal central base to explore the greater Elephant Coast area of Hluhluwe, St Lucia and Mkhuze.
